Set up a workstation

A workstation is the shared tablet or computer that runs Punch Clock. You do not create it first in the manager and then type a PIN on the tablet.

What you need

  • Manager Account ID (shown on Workstations and My Account / Settings header)
  • A manager password (the same password you use to sign in)
  • The floor device, opened to Punch Clock (PunchClock.html)

1. Copy the Account ID

Open Workstations. The Account ID is on that screen. The XYZ Restaurant demo shows its own id (account 10 plus the time stamp of when the account was created).

Workstations list
Workstations. Copy Account ID. After a tablet requests access, the new row shows as request until you authorize it.

2. Authorize on the tablet itself

On that device:

  1. Open Punch Clock.
  2. If you see “not authorized,” tap the gear.
  3. Tap Authorize this station.
  4. Enter a name, location, type (Fixed or Mobile), the Account ID, and a manager password.
  5. Submit.
Punch Clock waiting for authorization
A new browser has no station hash yet. Use the gear.
Authorize this station form
Authorize on the device that will punch. Account ID + manager password create the Stations row.

The tablet stores a hash in this browser. Do not authorize on your phone and expect the counter iPad to work.

3. Approve in the manager

Back in Workstations, the new row is request (pending). Click Change status and set Authorized.

The same tablet should then show the clock and the four punch buttons.

Rules that bite

  • Each device is its own station. Two tablets = two authorize + two approvals.
  • Stay on the same browser after you authorize. A different browser needs a new request.
  • Copied station hashes from another account will not work. Demo stations on XYZ Restaurant have their own hashes.

Next: Punch in and out.
